Radiologik Scheduler is the companion application to Radiologik DJ. Itschedules to DJ's program queue using iTunes/Music playlists to allow a 24/7fully-automated station. It can run in two different modes:

Basic (free)
Some of the basic abilities are the ability to pick singletracks or fill with multiple tracks from playlists sequentially orrandomly, using artist/composer/album/title separation, interrupts, time matching to anexact second or as close as possible to the top of the hour, variablefallback steps when commands can't be perfectly met and failover scriptlines when the previous line failed, as well as assigning AppleScriptsto any script line.

Advanced mode can be tried for as long as you need to sinceit is not time-limited but does need to be interacted with at leastevery two days to confirm you are still trying it until you purchaseand enter a registration.

What it does
Radiologik Scheduler chooses tracks from playlists iniTunes/Music with a little bit of extra logic to figure out times and separation. It builds these segments in 30, 60, 90, or up to 480 minute(8hr) blocks anywhere inside of a week schedule. The resolution of the scriptstatements are in seconds.

Playlists, and particularly smart playlists in iTunes/Music, give programmingtracks enormous power. Because Radiologik DJ tells iTunes/Music when it playsa track, you can use smart playlists to be sure you are not playingcertain songs again for a specified period of time. This can give you areservoir of tracks that have not played recently but enough tracks tostill pick at random, effectively giving a random rotation. You can usemany smart playlists for the same segment, giving you the ability toset when to play fast, medium, or slow songs or how often to play tiredsongs versus new songs that you may want to play more often.

Radiologik Scheduler runs the appropriate script 20 minutesbefore the start time and sends that set of tracks and directions toRadiologik DJ's program queue.

The Segment
Use the + button to add a segment. When you have a segment selected andyou press the + button, you'll get a new copy of that segment. You cancreate segments of 30 - 480 minute lengths in 30 minute increments andassign that to any 30 minute interval of any day of the week. 60 minuteprogram lengths are recommended for 24/7 music stations. You can createa variety and schedule them for different times of day and differentdays, alternating weeks etc to make a variety. You can name it anythingyou want. The name is for your organizational purposes. You can reorderyour segments by dragging them around in the list. This has no bearingon how it schedules and is also for your own organization. Then you canchoose the separation amounts desired and the preference set that shouldbe set for the DJ for each segment. For instance, my Rock segment Ilike 15 track artist separation but for my softer classical which has alot of Bach, I need the artist separation lower at about 10 since it'shard to avoid Bach and I like the overlaps at just under a second sincemost of these tracks have a long buffer but I like all of the otherpieces used elsewhere in the station to sound less rushed.

A segment can be set to many different times so the segment can bereused like a template. Set the start time and the days of the week.You might come up with a few segment 'templates' for a single formatstation and then repeat that script for various times. This doesn'trepeat the content, it just uses the same script.

You can give a segment a start and/or stop date for instance if youhave a particular program you want to run only in a particular season.For each segment time you can choose which weekday of the month such as2nd and 4th Tuesday or you can alternate weeks by using Even or Oddweeks of the year.

Use the week view tab to check that you've filled the schedule asexpected. It will show if your segments conflict.

The program properties will also indicate exactly where the conflictexists:

ScriptCommands
You can add and remove script lines using the + and - buttonsbelow the script list. If you have an item selected, pressing the +button makes a copy of that line. You can remove multiple lines byselecting them and pressing the - button. You can also copy and pastelines.

Times in the script are relative to the start time of the segment so ifyour start time is 8:30 PM, 05:02 would be 8:35:02 PM.

There are three commands for Basic:

1. Pickwill select one track from the iTunes/Music playlist. Most times you won'tneed minimum or maximum time values but they do work for pick.


2. Fillwill select tracks from the iTunes/Music playlist attempting to fill to theminimum time without filling past the maximum time. It requires aminimum time or else it will assume the minimum to be and outside valueof 15 minutes past the length of the segment.


3. Loadwill add the selected DJ program file which should be stored in~/Music/Radiologik/Programs/ in order to be found by the scheduler toput in the Playlist/Program menu


4. Playwill add the selected iTunes/Music playlist in playlist sort order up to 12 hours

Music Categories
If you are approaching this from the perspective of other radioautomation software, you might be asking how Radiologik supports theidea of music categories. Although Radiologik doesn't use the termcategories for music, the actual ability you have is actually betterthan the traditional segregation of categories.

Simply put, categories are iTunes/Music playlists. More specificallycategories are exactly how you define what your iTunes/Music playlist shows.Since each pick or fill command can use a different playlist, this ishow you accomplish the alternation of categories.

A simple way to categorize is to use the Comments inthe tags in iTunes/Music to put your category assignments. Then have yoursmart playlists match rules that select those comments.

So I don't repeat songs too soon I have it only show apercentage of songs with this comment. In the case above I have 400songs with the comment 'ModernMix' so I choose to show 25% of the leastrecently played which is 100.

Smart Playlists are better than categories
Playlists can be extremely specific or very general.They are a collection of attributes. A song can be in more thanone smart playlist at a time.

Here's an example of being both specific and general. I have thefollowing comments in my music:

I could have 3 smart playlists. One picks TranceVocal, anotherTranceInstrumental, and another can just look for 'starts with Trance'to get both.

Here's another example with tracks with the following comments:

With your scripts having different patterns of picks and fills choosingfrom different smart playlists, you can mix up all kinds of patterns ofplaylists through an hour for many different clocks (segments). You canrun these clocks at different times of the day and even differentdepending on weekday.

Special Playlists for rotating iTunes/Musicplaylists and silence breaks
There are two special playlists which appear at the top of theplaylist menus which are just in Radiologik Scheduler and not directlyfrom iTunes/Music

•Break (Silence)

•Rotated Playlist

You can create a group of iTunes/Music playlist that are numbered andhave Scheduler use a rotation through those playlists. You can then usethat rotated playlist to have iTunes/Music play the playlist at the starttime or you can use the •Rotated Playlist in your script.

This would work if you have 45 iTunes/Music playlists like:

The rotated playlist shown above that will play next is'Classical 2' and at the point at which it is either used in a scriptor used to play this playlist in iTunes/Music, the text in that field willchange to 'Classical 3/45'. It will continue until it plays 'Classical45/45' at which point it will increment back to 'Classical 1/45'.

The Synced checkbox allows you to keep the increment of the rotated playlists in syncacross multiple programs that use the same root playlist name and also have Synced on

Command Attributes
The next field is for single letters representing the attributes.Normal command attributes for music are r=random, u=unique,a=all separation, and h=hour avoidance shown next.

• r = Random

• u = Unique tracks

• n = No loop

Allows you to add tracks in the orderof the playlist without repeating through the playlist but it willallow the same track to be programmed more than once or already be inqueue if u = unique is off. Useful if some audio files need to be in acertain playlist order and some of those files are used more than once.

• a = All separation

Checks to makesure the same artist is not chosen within a certain number of tracks asset on the Program Properties and Times tab.

This attribute applies artist, composer (if preference is set), album and title separation. It worksregardless of whether other script lines had this attribute.Artist separation uses substring searches using separators in anartist tag to better detect the same artists with guest artists in theartist tag. The separators are:

Each separator looks for a space on either side of the separator.Substrings are omitted when 'orchestr' is found in the second part.Parenthesis are removed before making comparisons. Up to 3 artists pertag can be detected.

The separation also uses the composertag but only separates composersto composers and artists to artists. Multiple composers are compared tomultiple composers by using the separator of / with or without spaces.

Album Separation is useful for various artist albumswhere artist separation will not prevent proximity on the same album.

Title Separation is useful forseparating tracks that have the same title but may be peformed bydifferent artists such as with Christmas music or American Standards.It is more of a niche need and should not be misunderstood to do thejob of rotation that a smart playlist showing least recently playedtracks and u=unique does.

Separation is done overall on the tracks so farprogrammed in thescript or in DJ's queue regardless of whether other lines usedall separation. It is case-insensitive.

d = Dependent

• f = Failover

• c = Contingent

Track Actions
Track actions are the same as what can be set to invididual tracks in the Program Queue in DJ. Track actions execute when the track starts playing.

• i = Station ID

• s=Applescript

• m=Stream

• Line In

• t=Studio Timer

Interrupts
If you want to fade down the last segment or start from silence at thestart time of the segment, then use 00:00 in the interrupt field alongwith the other parts of the script for that selected track or first ofmany tracks to play at that time.

If you want to fade down a segment to silence and not play anything ata specified time, you can make your last script with a 30:00 or 60:00interrupt time (respective of the segment length) and have it pick fromthe '•Break (silence)' playlist to place a short 5 second silent file.Make sure your minimum fill before the interrupt is enough to cover usto the interrupt. The scheduler makes a really good attempt to get allthe times figured correctly but to be safe make your minimum somethinglike 3 minutes extra past the overlap to make-up for any differences inthe reality of playing. So you would fill to a minimum of 33:00 or63:00 depending on the length of the segment.

Minimum, Maximum, and Exact time searching
You can set a min or a max, both, or nothing for min and max.

Min and max times are minutes relative to the start time. These timesare cumulative times for the whole segment, not limited durations foreach script line. If our program start time is 3:00 PM then a min of16:15 is 3:16:15 PM. If your program starts at 3:30 PM then an min of16:15 is 3:46:15 PM.

If you set a min, it says, just make sure the track you pick or fillexceeds this number of minutes and seconds into the program segment.

If you set a max, it says, just make sure the track you pick or fillwith doesn't exceed this max into the program segment.

If you set nothing for min and max then 1 track is picked withoutregard to time. Fills will work like picks when there are no min or maxvalues.

And if you do both min and max then you are putting both constraints onyour pick or fill. But beware not to give it a constraint that it can'taccomplish such as a min and max too close in which case it will haveto fail that script line command if it can't find anything short enoughto fit.

However if you use a min andmax that are identical like min 50:00 max 50:00 it will search for atrack to get to that exact second.

Top of the Hour figuring
Use 'TOTH' in the minimum time field with a fill command ifyour segment starts at the top of the hour and you want to continue thesame music format without interrupting at the exact top of the hour.This will find the best place to put a Station ID.

For the previous segment, make sure you have not completely filled thesegment since each new segment can fill the short in the previoussegment in figuring the best placement of the station ID. Considerwhere most of your song times are. To consider all songs between 5 minsand 3:30 length fill minimum to 55:00 and maximum to 56:30 for the lastscript line.

This function uses a search to find the best time fit to the top of thehour searching either side of the top of the hour in incrementallylarger widths up to 10 seconds on either side of the hour. Failing thatit falls back to looking at the track that crosses over the top of thehour to determine what the best position is either before or after thehour depending on how much the track crosses over the hour. If itdetermines before the actual top of the hour, it will place the nextscript line, say a pick from a station ID playlist and continue withthe script. If it places the TOTH before the actual top of the hour, itis possible that the next script line will program a song that wouldhave put the top of the hour position closer on the over side but inmost cases this will still be the best position of the top of the hour.

TOTH works for the top of hour at the beginning of the segment for asegment starting at the top of the hour. It finds the first top of thehour encountered when a segment starts at the bottom of the hour. Ifyour segment is multiple hours, the TOTH will find the closest top ofthe hour relative to where it currently is in time in the script. Butit will not find the TOTH of the next segment.

ScriptExample #1 (Exact Start 30 mins)

This script above for 9:30 PM starts with an interrupt at thebottom of the hour which here is 00:00. I use an interrupt preciselybecause nothing was playing in Radiologik before this segment as othersoftware in the station is running. It is a 30 minute segment leadingto 10:00 PM. The Station ID plays at exactly the bottom of hour (notlegally required but still nice since in my case I'm changing formats)and is followed by a single file I have in the ModernInfo playlist.I added an intro for the proceeding script lines first track.After that it fills from between Min 08:00 and Max 11:00 (9:38 PM and9:41 PM) with songs from the ModernTrance smart playlist iniTunes/Music. I put in a combo which picks an outro, combo connector (sweep/jingle)and an intro. Then I fill with more music from ModernTrance. I stop short of fillingto the top of the hour at 10:00 PM since I want that next segment to figurewhen to put the ID by finding the best track to get to the top of the hour.

It is important to leave enough room for the next segment to have achance to find a fit for the top of the hour (TOTH). The room I leaveat the end of this segment is a range in which many songs can be fit tothe second to the TOTH. I looked through my playlist 'ModernTrance'sorting it by time in iTunes/Music to survey my song lengths. I found that myinventory of songs covers every second from the length of about 3:00 to5:00 so I decided on a range of 24:30 (5:30 away from TOTH) to 26:45(3:15 away from TOTH) as my min and max times.

Script Example #2 (hour-to-hour 1 hour)

This script is for 10:00 PM. I start with a fill to TOTH to get us a track that gets us as closeas possible to the exact second that is 10:00:00 PM. Then we do thetime announcement and the ID and then back to the pattern of musicfills, ads sweeps making sure to keep us somewhat on-time by usingfills with min and max width ranges about the size of a song to a half songlength. The last fill is min 54:00, max 56:45 which will allow lots ofpossible perfect matches to getto the top of the hour again in the next segment.

Attributes ruah (random, unique tracks, all separation, hour avoidance) are normalgood practice for programming music tracks. But you probably want someof these off when it comes to ads and jingles/sweeps you may have added inbetweensongs using pick commands since maybe all yoursweeps/jingles have the same artist such as your station name. But keepthe u (unique) attribute for your sweeps/jingles to keep them fromrepeating if they don't have to.

Script Example #3 (exact stop)

Here's a script where I want to end Radiologik playing. Again I fillfrom the previous segment to try to get to the top of the hour but inthis case I've done it differently by using the same time for min andmax of 00:00. Unlike the TOTH which will go either side of the hour ifit can't match the exact second to the hour, this will instead allow itto schedule beyond the hour so we make sure we don't have silencebefore the exact top of the hour segment. If the song happens to golonger than the top of the hour, the next command to pick at 00:00 withan interrupt will fade the previous track in DJ at the fade ratedetermined in the preferences in DJ.

Fallback procedures
If qualifying tracks cannot be found, Radiologik Scheduler runsthrough several fallbacks to help ensure it is programming something.For each fallback, all tracks in the playlist are considered before proceeding tothe next fallback.

1. The first fallback is to the fallbackplaylist if it exists and has items.
2. If that fails, the next fallback is to turnall separation off if is is on and that fallback step is allowed
3. If that fails, the next fallback is to turnhour avoidance off if it is on and that fallback step is allowed
4. If that fails, the next fallback is to turnoff unique tracks if it is on and that fallback step is allowed
5. If that fails, then that line fails. It willthen start fresh on the next line. And optionally the next line canonly run if it is a fallback by selecting the failover attributecheckbox for the next line.

If you make your minimum and maximum times too close together such as30:00 minimum and 30:05 maximum, there's a really good chance thescheduler will not find a track to match.

You can have a specific line that runs on in the case a script linefails. Add a script line after the potentially failing script line anduse the failover attribute to indicate this line should only run if theprevious line failed.

Failover lines only work after failed pick,fill and date commands.

AppleScript
Choose the AppleScript from the menu at bottom of the Window. ThatApplescript is run when the first track programmed for that script lineplays in DJ. Place your applescripts in ~/Music/Radiologik/Scripts/ forthem to appear in the menu. Use the Refresh Menus command in the Filemenu to update all menus for changed items.

Week View
This is a useful reference to see if you've filled all of theweek you expect to and also to check for conflicts of segments. Ifthere's a conflict, it will show on that block in this view.

Tasks allows you to schedule different operations apart from scheduling and on a schedule independent of the schedule. The actions you can do are run an AppleScript, upload or download a file, run a shell script and follow it all up with another AppleScript.

File transfer allows you to setup an upload or download. For downloads, you can set either a local folder to download to, preserving the original name, or choose a file. If you choose a target local file, the downloaded file will be renamed exactly as the target local file, replacing the local file.

Advanced featuresare available when Radiologik Scheduler is running in Advanced mode.Either Advanced or Basic will show in the title of the scheduler windowto indicate which mode it is running in. You are asked which mode youwant to run on the first launch but you can bring this dialog back upby holding option when launching Radiologik Scheduler.

[time] Time Announcements
Use the 'time' command to place a time announce marker in thescript like you would a pick or fill. Time Announce will only work ifthe AIFF files ranging from 0000.aif for 12 o'clock to 1159.aif for11:59 are in ~/Music/Radiologik/Time Announce/. In addition,hour-agnostic time files can be used by the format xx00.aif toxx59.aif. You can create thesefiles yourself in your own voice or download them in my voice from http://macinmind.com/Radiologik/Download/.Time announcement files are dynamically selected by Radiologik DJ toalways be the correct time. Radiologik DJ will announce 5 seconds or sobefore the next minute as the next minute. Time announce tracks will bydefault always have their overlap set to zero seconds to make sure theyarenever overlapped by other content. But this can be changed in theGlobal pane of the Radiologik DJ Preferences.

Use files 1200.aif- 2359.aif for 24 hour time or AM/PM distinction. If it is 12:00 noonor later, it looks for 1200.aif and up and if it doesn't find that, itwill to look for 0000.aif. Time format needs to be 24-Hour Time inSystem Preferences-->Language & Region.

Minute-only time
Use files xx00.aif - xx59.aif to announce the minutes without regard towhat hour it is.

Voiceover time
Use files 0000-vo.aif - 1159-vo.aif or any other time formats like xx00-vo.aif - xx59-vo.aif with -vo appended to the name but before the extension to have them programmed as voiceovers that duck over the next track's ramp.

[date] Date matching
Use the 'date' command to do a search for thematching day of the year in the title of tracks from the playlist chosen for the command.Dates are searched in five formats:

The year in the first two formats is only used as aplaceholder to determine it is a date format and the year itself is notmatched. The search looks for these patterns anywhere in the title soyou can have text before and after your date and it will still find it.

Example titles: 'This day in History1958-03-29' will only match on March 29th of any year. '520404 (36) Fools Gold' will onlymatch on April 4th of any year. 'Tipof the Day Feb 9' or 'TheFebruary 9th 2010 Tip of the Day' will only match February 9th.

If no match is found it resorts to the fallback playlist and if nomatch is found there it fails the script line. You'll need to haveother script lines ready to make up the time should it fail or use afailover script line.

In addition to the [date]command there are 6 variations which are described in the interface.Four variations cover 2 days before and after for five days of possiblematching, one that just looks for the month called the '>[month] command, and one [date=]that searches both title and comments to match the date using the year.

[pick] [intro] [outro] and [combo] commandVoiceovers
An intro voiceover introduces the next track and will use the ramp ofthe next track to determine if and how to voiceover the actual trackthis way:

1. If the ramp is 0, then there's no overlap.
2. If the ramp is less time than the intro,then the intro starts first and overlaps only as much as the ramp soyou get a perfect finish of the intro at the end of the ramp at thepost.
3. If the ramp is longer than the intro, thenthe intro and the song start at the same time and intro ends and thesong fades up before the end of the ramp (the post).

Here are the different ways a voiceover can beplaced.

[pick]
Any pick command can make that selected track a voiceover in DJ byusing -vo at the end ofplaylist name in iTunes/Music, or at the end of the title, artist, or albumas set in iTunes/Music. For example, you might have a title intro promo. To make it a voiceover,make it intro promo-vo.

Create and Manage Intros & Outros
Voiceovers are also done using the intro and outro commands in the script which will dynamically choose voiceover files specific to your tracks. Those Intro and Outro files can be created, edited, visualized and tested on the Intros & Outros pane. To use this, pick a playlist with the tracks you want intros and outros for. Choose the DJ Voice, Intros or Outros and subfolder if any exist. You can then use the add buttons to add the different types of intros or outros which will create a new file named correclty and opened in your favorite audio editor. I recommend Amadeus Pro or Amadeus Lite (Pay) or ocenaudio (free). These are the files used by the intro, outro and combo commands described below.
[intro]
The inro command has nosettings and should be placed in the script before the line that picksthe track you want to voiceover. The command that follows can be pick,fill, or even date. Voiceover types are searched in this order:

1. artist-title.aif
The intro command will first look to match the artist and title in apattern of artist-title.aif inthe folder ~/Music/Radiologik/Intros/.

2. artist.aif
If it doesn't find it by above, next it looks for just the artist inthe pattern artist.aif. So youcan have a specific voiceover intro file for an artist and song or ageneral fallback to just announce the artist.

3. (search title).aif
If it doesn't find it by any of the above, you can also match apartial title of a song in paranthesis. For example, the title Light as Air (Radio Version) willlook for the intro file (RadioVersion).aif.

4. (album).aif
If it doesn't find it by above, you can also specify avoiceover for an album by using parenthesis around the album name inthe pattern of (album).aif.

5. [genre].aif
Next it looks to match the genre inside the brackets so for thegenre Rock it will look for [Rock].aif.

6. [year].aif
Lastly it looks to match the year in the year metadata/tag so for theyear 1983 it will look for [1983].aif.

If none of these are found, no track is placed. The intro files shouldbe AIFF files with either a .aif or .aiff extension.

When the intro file is brought into the DJ after it is scheduled, it isset with voiceover on so you'll see the checkbox in the VO column ison. With this box checked the voiceover file will overlap the nexttrack no more than the ramp time on the next track. It will also duckthe next track while playing by the amount set in the preferences.Usually 20-40% is good. For this reason you'll need ramp times setproperly for your tracks or else if they are zero, the voice over willnot duck and overlap the next track but just start it when thevoiceover is done playing. In some cases with vocals that start rightaway or certain genres, this would be the desired behavior.

[outro]
Outros are selected the same basic way using the outro command whichshould be placed after the command in order to announce the last track.The outro command will look for matches in the ~/Music/Radiologik/Outros/ folder.

1. The outro commandwill first look to match the artist and title in apattern of artist-title.aif inthe folder ~/Music/Radiologik/Outros/.

2. If it doesn't find it by above, next it looks for just the artist inthe pattern artist.aif. So youcan have a specific outro file for an artist and song or ageneral fallback to just announce the artist.

3. If it doesn't find it by any of the above, you can also match apartial title of a song in paranthesis. For example, the title Light as Air (Radio Version) willlook for the outro file (RadioVersion).aif.

4. And lastly, if it doesn't find it by above, you can also specify anoutro for an album by using parenthesis around the album name inthe pattern of (album).aif.

Both [outro] and [intro]
In addition to this for both intros and outros, you can use 10varieties by using a -# in the file such as artist-title-5.aif or artist-9.aif or (album)-7.aif. These intro andoutro varieties are then chosen purely randomly.

Intros and Outros can also be DJ voice specific. Use ~/Music/Radiologik/DJ Voices/[DJName]/Intros/~/Music/Radiologik/DJVoices/[DJ Name]/Outros/. See DJ Voices in the topic below.

In addition to this, you can organize your intro and outro aif filesanyway you like, nesting in folders in a way that make sense to you.

One caution: When placing an outro just before an intro, be sure thatthe outro is at least one second and that you have added at least thedefault overlap of silence to the end of the file so that the introisn't talking over the outro and also so that the outro is long enoughthat it doesn't require a triple-segue on the 3rd player thusinterfering with the intro being a voiceover on the 3rd player.

[combo] (Intel Macs only)
The combo command is a combination of the intro and outro in onecommand. It is better than using an outro and then an intro since itcombines an outro and an intro into one file and stores it~/Music/Radiologik/Combos/ and and adds it to the queue from there.

When using combos, you should make sure the amount of trailing silenceon your outro files and leading silence on your intro files provide anatural sound when they are put directly together. With DJ version2012.9.1 and later, outros always have an overlap of 0 so it isgenerally good to have your outros with 0.25 seconds of trailingsilence to give a natural pause between it and anything that follows.Likewise intros should have 0.25 seconds of leading silence so that youhave about 0.5 seconds of silence between the two phrases. With outrosedited with little to no trailing silence, you should have OverlappingOutrosunchecked in the preferences on the advanced pane in order to havethe outro command continue to work properly with these files.

Combo Connectors
You can place audio between the intro and outro of a combo file byproviding .aif or .aiff files in the ~/Music/Radiologik/ComboConnectors or relative DJ Voices folder. The resultant combo will thenbe an intro-combo connector-outro all working as a voiceover and usingthe ramp over the next track. Combo connectors are chosen at random.Use combo connectors for jingles, station monikers, or any branding orspeech you would like to randomly place between outros and intros.

Whatever files are found of the intros, outros or combo connectors willbe placed by the combo command. So there are all of these possibilitiesdepending on the files available:

Combo files are meant to be disposable andScheduler will prune the ~/Music/Radiologik/Combos folder once a weekto remove tracks that were modified one week or older. You can also usethe File menu item to do it manually.

Twin Spin

[twin]
The twin command works like a pick to select two random tracks from the same random artist. To use it you just select a playlist and place two of these twin commands anywhere in the same program script. It is restricted to the attributes r=random and u=unique. No artist separation is performed and no track actions can be assigned. But having the twin command used as two twin commands, you have the freedom to place other content between the two twin commands such as a playlist that announces a twin spin and or an intro or combo.

UpNext

[upnext]
You can place an announcement of the upcoming program by using the next command. Place .aif files usingthe program name to be announced in ~/Music/Radiologik/UpNext/Programs/. Use the program name you use in Scheduler toname the file program name.aif.When a next command is used, it will place the Up Next audio file inqueue. When the next program schedules, that up next audio will be theaudio file used. This works best when you are scheduling segments neartheir start time such as 20 minutes before which is the default andwhen the next command is used between the time of scheduling and thestart time of the next program segment. So for 1 hours segments theupnext command should be well after 45:00 or so to be sure to play thecorrect up next audio.

Example: If you have a 1 hourprogram at 9:00 and you put in an upnext command for about 9:45 in thescript, that upnext command will actually use the program name of the10:00 program. The point of the upnext is to announce what the NEXTprogram is. For illustration the programs are named for their timesbelow. Program for 9PM will schedule at 8:40 and place the Up Next.aif at about 9:45. When10:00 schedules at 9:40, it will copy the Program for 10PM.aif file to be the Up Next.aif file you see below.Since 9:00 placed the Up Next.aiffile and it was switched at 9:40, it will play the Program for 10PM.aif audio now inthe Up Next.aif file at 9:45.

You can make your up next files voiceovers so if they are placed infront of any tracks with ramps, they will voiceover. Append -vo to theartist or album tag of your program name.aif files.

MusicBeds

For use with a voiceover whichhas been placed with a pick command using the -vosuffix. Follow that voiceover pick with a pick that chooses tracksthat have -bed at the end ofthe artist, title, or album tag. That track will be a music bed andplay at ducked volume until a few seconds at then end when it will fadeup and end or fade up and fade down if the length needed to beshortened.

If the music bed track is longer than the voiceover, it will beadjusted to fit the voiceover.

If the music bed track is shorter than the voiceover, it will startpartway into the voiceover so that it ends just a few seconds after thevoiceover.

With music beds you can keep a smart playlist of music bed tracks in aplaylist in iTunes/Music that rotates just like music does perhaps by leastrecently played and each music bed will be fitted to whatever you havefor speech from the voiceover pick command. Use this for announcements,news, weather, etc. You might find that using a pick to put a stingerafter this will finish it nicely.
DJVoices
Each segment can have a distinct DJ voice for intros, outros and timeannouncements. Place your Intros, Outros and Time Announcement files ina named folder inside the DJ Voices folder in ~/Music/Radiologik/DJ Voices/.

The DJ Voice menu will populate with these folder names. If an intro oroutro cannot be found for the track in the DJ folder, no intro or outrois used. However if you use time announce and there are no matchingtimes for the present time in the DJ Voices specific Time Announcefolder, scheduler will choose from the default ~/Music/Radiologik/Time Announce/.

[podcast]Podcasts
Subscribe to podcasts so you can schedule episodes in your radio programming.

From the Episodes list you can limit the number of episodes shown and select episodes by rules such as a minimum or maximum time length, by inclusion or exclusion of a keyword in the titles. Radiologik DJ marks the episodes played with a play count so you can select by number of play counts. Also you can sort by Plays or Last Played to put the most often or most recently played to the bottom of the list.

For the script, you use a 'podcast' command and select the podcast name you created in the left column of Podcats

[spot]Spots/Ads
Spots are specially scheduled audio for announcements oradvertising handled through the Traffic tab.

For the script, you use a 'spot' command as merely amarker as to how many spots can be placed. Then select a preferredFlight category. Flight categories are set on the traffic tab and bysetting your preferred flight category you can specify what categoriesof spots should play at what times and in what order in your program.Everything else is handled on the Traffic tab.

Traffic

On the traffic tab, you can create a new flight for which you specifythe start and stop dates and hours and audio file. It is necessary to have both a start and stop date as Traffic is usually meant for limited runs.If you want something to run endlessly, consider just using a pick instead.

Then on the rightyou check the boxes for the the flight times days of the week andtimes. These flight times show only those weeks and hours in whichthere are spot commands in your program segments. These flight timeswill show how many are filled versus the total such as 2/3.

If you fill all the spots in the flight times, such as 3/3 then it willcolor green to indicate it is full. If you overfill these flight timessuch as 4/3, they will turn red. The red indicator will also show onthe week view tab. Each week can be different depending on the startand stop dates of your flights so you can change the week forward andbackward with the < & > buttons just above the flight times.Similar buttons are also provided on the Week View tab.

Flight Categories
You can set categories for your flights. This is useful if you want toprefer a particular order of spots in the program. The program allowsyou to set the preferred category for each spot command.

There are 20 categories besides the default. You can customize thenames of the categories by pressing the Labels button. You don't haveto worry about losing any assignments for the flights nor for the spotcommands when you change the names of your categories. They are alwaysremembered by their number.

How it schedules the spots
When the program segment is scheduled, the qualifying spots areshuffled and evenly distributed into the different spot commandsproportionally to how many spots each spot command has. So if you don'thave enough spots for the openings, they'll be spread more thinly. Ifyou overbook, all of the scheduled spots will still be scheduled.

When there are categories for the spot commands, it will still try toevenly distribute the spots but it will try to match the categories.The main priority is to make sure all ads are placed evenly and areplaced as they are being guaranteed. Category matching is a secondarypriority. If it can't match the category, then for a non default spotcommand it will prefer a default flight. If it can't find a defaultcategory flight, then it will choose a flight at random.

Cards Analogy
Think of a dealer dealing cards. In this analogy, we'll define:

player = spot command
players = all of the spot commands in a script
cards requested by player = spot command 'how many'
suit requested by player = spot category
dealer's cards = scheduled flights for this program

The dealer shuffles the cards. Then the dealer goes to each player. Foreach player, the dealer asks the player what suit he requests andsearches his cards for a matching suit and if found, gives a card ofthat suit. The dealer uses a ratio of dealer cards to cards requestedby players to determine how many cards that player should have in orderto evenly distribute the dealer cards. If there are more playerrequests remaining than dealer cards, the dealer is allowed to skip tothe next player. If the correct suit isn't found, then the dealer looksfor a non-suite Category 0 card. If one cannot be found, and there arenot more player requests remaining than cards, the dealer will insiston dealing some card which will then have to be a suit the playerdidn't request. The dealer only goes around the table once in the orderof the script.

If Run overbookings is on, then the dealer evenly deals more cards thanthe players asked for to make sure all cards are dealt.

Silence Sensor is a tool that can listen to the default stereo channelson an audio source device and take action if the loudness is below adetermined level for a determined amount of time. Actions areAppleScripts for both the error and restore conditions. When you createa new script for one of these, there are examples already in the initialscript for notifying by email with Apple's Mail, SMS through Messages,and taking action such as adding a playlist to the program queue if notracks are in queue.

To use Silence Sensor, you must create at least one Silence SensorProfile. Pick the Sound input device you want to monitor and press theOn/Off button to turn it on. You may need to experiment to find theright threshold and duration. Once a profile is turned on, it stays onas long as Scheduler is running. If Scheduler is quit and relaunched,Silence Sensor restores its state.

With the ability to create different Silence Profiles, you can set different thresholds and durations for different audio content. Rock may need to be very different from Classical as Classical may have much greater dynamics and require a lower threshold and longer durations. By using Profiles, you can coordinate different Silence Sensor settings and scripts for different programming. Silence Sensor Profiles can be set per prgram on the Program item in the toolbar on the Program Properties & Times tab and are active for the scheduled segment. If the program segment has a start time of 8:00 PM, that is when the selected Silence Sensor Profile action is taken. By default, each program starts with nothing for the Silence Sensor Profile which indicates no action is taken. The actions that can be taken are to start a Silence Sensor Profile and stop one.

There are a couple utilities that help with Track Properties that arekept in the scheduler so they don't chance interference with theperformance of DJ. Track Properties contains data about how a trackshould be overlapped, how it is trimmed, how it fades in or out, aswell as an end note to the DJ about how the track ends and the ramptime which is the time the DJ can talk into the track. All trackproperties can be set in DJ by selecting a track in a list andselecting properties in the bottom right.

TrackPrep
This tab on the main window allows you to use parameters to examine theaudio and automatically set the track properties of audio filesselected in iTunes/Music or by playlist so that they make better segues for radio. If youintend to normalize your audio files with iVolume, you should do sobefore using Track Prep since Track Prep uses the gain adjusted valuesin its calculations.Simple Use:Select the tracks you want to process (up to a few thousand) in iTunes/Music or choose a playlist,then use one of the four Presets such as 'Heavy Overlap' and press theProcess button. If you need to, you can adjust the sliders to the leftto taste and process again. Those values are described below.

Overlap Threshold:Audio files are examined from end to front up to 30 seconds insearching for the first samples that meet the threshold in dB. Therange is -12dB to -48dB with -12dB being louder and -48dB being quieter.

Overlap Pad: From thatthreshold point you can choose to pad how much past the threshold toplace the overlap (the place where the next track is started). You caneven pad negative to force the overlap closer together. Use -0.3 tomake a tiny overlap even on cold ending songs.

Maximum Overlap before trimming:You can also set the maximum length of overlap. If the overlap point isfurther into the file than the overlap length allowed, the right trimis adjusted to compensate and the fade down value from that slider isapplied. If the overlap point is less than the maximum overlap, the endtrim is not adjusted and no fade out value is used.

Start Trim Threshold: You canalso select to trim the starts. This looks up to 10 seconds into thesong looking for the threshold you choose from -48dB to -24dB. If thethreshold is at least 1.0 seconds into the file, the files is trimmed0.5 seconds before the threshold and a 0.5 second fade up is set. Withthe threshold at some value other than off, if any leading silence of0.2 or longer is found, it will be trimmed.

Trim if length is greater than:Yet another feature is to limit the length of tracks. When you set amaximum length in seconds, it shows what that is in hours, minutes andseconds and any track that exceeds that is trimmed and faded accordingto the 'fade down if trimmed' value.

Override any previous overlaps:If you made changes already in DJ to the overlap, by default using thiswill not process the file. It's assumedyou already manually adjusted the file and want that. However if youwant to override that, there's a checkbox on this tab to do so.

Remove overlaps and other properties:You can also remove just those properties that can be changed by thistool, specifically overlap, end trim, and fade down without affectingany other properties you may have manually changed such as ramp and endnote. Select the tracks in iTunes or choose the playlist, then check the remove overlapscheckbox and click the remove button.

Presets: There are four presets(Heavy Overlap, Light Overlap, No gap, Even gap) intended as baselinesand also to instruct on how to set the values for certain results.

Note: Track Prep uses thevolume level calculated using the Sound Check value. For best results,have Sound Check turned on in iTunes/Music and also on in DJ on the Audio tabof the preferences. For optimal results, use iVolume to set the Sound Checkvalues since it uses Replay Gain algorithm.

TrackProperties Backup
You can backup all ofthe track properties of all the files that have Track Properties bydoing a snapshot.

You don't have to have iTunes/Music open but any songs for which you havetrack properties must be in iTunes/Music. Select the Track Properties tabfrom the main window, press snapshot to file.

If you have done changes to your tracks such as re-ripping to a higher bitrate or to AACinstead of mp3s, as long as the files have the exact same path with theexception of the file extension (.mp3 or .m4a), you can restoreproperties from the file you saved earlier.

TroubleshootingProgram Builds
Issues with getting the right results from Scheduler often have a lotto do with how you create your scripts. You can do test builds to seehow they work and the Logs tab will show you how it executed thescript, line by line. This is very helpful to troubleshooting scriptssince Scheduler logs a lot of details about what is doing and oftenwhy. You can read these logs yourself to determine what you need tochange or you can provide them in a support email if you need help.

Reverting to backup
Backups of the Schedule segments and Traffic are made daily atmidnight or can be made manually from the File menu. The backups aremade to ~/Library/Application Support/Radiologik/Backups/.

To restore the schedule segments and/or traffic from a backup,select the program segment you want to restore from backup and use the File menu to restore selected program or all programs from backup.To restore the traffic from a backup:

1. Select Show Backups from the File menu
2. Quit Scheduler
3. In the Finder open another Window to your homefolder, then Music, then Radiologik
4. Copy the Traffic folder fromthe backup folder to the ~/Music/Radiologik/ folder
5. Launch Scheduler

If Radiologik quits unexpectedly, it may create a crash report that youcan email that will help determine the source of the problem to find asolution. Use Console in /Applications/Utilities/ to show log list anddepending on OS X version it will be in either User Diagnostic Reportsor ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter. Look for files beginning withRadiologik. You can drag the item right from the list to produce filethat can be emailed.

Logs
Radiologik keeps logs in ~/Library/Logs/Radiologik/ which you caneasily access through Console. An Errors.log may reveal issuesand that can be emailed. If you have issues with Scheduling andplayback, sending a log for the day from both Scheduler and andPlay Logs is very helpful in showing what issue you might behaving such as with how a Scheduler script executed.

Unless it is indicated in the logs, report the version of Radiologik DJand Scheduler, OS X version, and which model Mac and any other relevantinformation.

It is possible to run more than one copy ofRadiologik DJ and Scheduler and have those copies use their own set ofRadiologik folders. To do this, make a copy of the Radiologik DJ and/orScheduler application(s) and add a -- and something to the name of theapplication such as 'Radiologik DJ--Jazz' and/or 'RadiologikScheduler--Jazz'. Then these copies will use folders 'Radiologik--Jazz'in the Music, Logs, and Preferences folders. When launched, they willalso show the appended name in their respective title bars. Withmultiple audio outputs it is then possible to run more than onechannel/station on the same Mac. All of the Radiologik applicationinstances will still share the same one iTunes/Music. It is still onlypossible to run one Nicecast instance since it can only know one set ofpreferences at at time.

When updating to a new version via the built-inversion updater, the altered application name for each instance is kept.

Radiologik DJ is meant to be an equally good live DJand automation player (with the use of Radiologik Scheduler). Why not?I'd personally love to walk into an automation program and just sitdown and run it myself for a while and walk out when I feel like it.
The interface is designed to give precedence to the most importantthings for radio, in particular large display of remaining time andcolored warnings when time is running out. Time calculation is given alot of importance and so it is calculated for starts and stops of songsinto the future through the Program queue. For instance, adjusting therate actually adjusts the displayed length of the song and how itaffects everything after it instead of just running the seconds faster.You could therefore accurately run your next five songs at a particularrate to meet the news at the top of the hour perfectly by watching theresulting end times in the queue. You can sort the library by songlength or talk time to find a good match for your time constraints.Even multiple selections are added-up to display the total time of theselection.
Holding down the mouse on a menu or moving the window around does notfreeze time display for the players as it does in some other moreexpensive DJing programs. Operations throughout the program are oftendone in independent threads and given specific time priorities toensure the best performance overall. For instance, logging has very lowpriority and audio playing has top priority. With the exception ofRadiologik being unregistered, modal dialogs are used sparingly toensure you don't have a dialog window, and especially not a dialog withno way out but to wait, getting in the way of operating. Importing theentire iTunes/Music Library is optimized for speed without interfering withplayout.
The default resolution for time is 1/10th seconds. Any higherresolution is unreadable while playing and practically imperceptiblefor radio timing.
Radiologik will be developed for Mac-only particularlybecause the need is greater on the Mac for a variety of tools like thisbut also so that I'm not wasting time trying to reproduce features onanother platform and risking a lower common denominator of abilities.The Mac is the best platform for audio and although there are plenty oftools for audio creation, it seems that the area of professional radioproduction software (or really any radio production software) is sparseon the Mac while there are dozens of pretty feature robust radioplayout solutions on windows... but they are Windows.
What Radiologik is not
Radiologik does not cater to the club mix DJ. The DJ itself does notexamine songs to figure how to overlap them, however the scheduler(free in basic mode) has Track Prep to automatically do this and results from this are muchbetter than programs that attempt to do it on the fly. Audio should beprepped for automatic for the best results or unprepped audio can beplayed manually by your own trigger. Radiologik is not meant to looklike a real-world device like a CD player because that design can beconstraining and doesn't always lead to the best interface for the task.But we retain distinct players because we use multiple audiooutputs and it can be important to keep it straight which playout is towhich output on the board. Radiologik does not includesupport for audio units or VST effects, nor does it do streaming. Thiscan already be done very well with products such as Niceast and AudioHijack Pro. Radiologik does not do any particular mixerfunctions. However support is given for mouse wheel faders of allplayers and 4 distinct stereo audio outputs are supported if you wantto run each player to a board input. MIDI control surfaces are alsosupported and those that have motorized faders are not only supportedbut also entertaining for cats.Radiologik DJ accepts mp3, AAC & Apple Lossless (m4a), aiff, and wav sound files. Thereare three track lists which I'll cover more thoroughly below: ProgramQueue, Spot, and Library. Program Queue and Spot are used for playing,Library is used for finding and previewing.
Dragging

Radiologik Dj Manual 2016

Tracks can be dragged-in from the Finder or iTunes/Music. When dragging-inmultiple tracks, the Finder may not give the order you see but iTunes/Music should in most cases.
iTunes/Music Library import button
One of the fastest ways to get music into the Library is to use the'Import from iTunes/Music' button. If you'd like to restrict which tracks youimport, use a keyword search and/or a playlist to the right of thebutton and press return or hit the 'Import from iTunes/Music' button. It willsearch for tracks matching that field in the Genre, Artist, Album,Name, and Comment. So you could simply bring in asingle Genre by typing that in the field to the left of the iTunes MusicLibrary button and pressing the button. Every time you do this you addto what's in the Library instead of replacing it. The Library ismaintained between launches.
iTunes/Music Playlists
Every list allows you to import an iTunes/Music playlist. The list of iTunes/Musicplaylists is created when Radiologik DJ is launched and can be updatedto reflect changes in actual iTunes/Music playlists by selecting RefreshPlaylist Menus from the File menu.
Radiologik Scheduler
Used for full automation, the scheduler will select tracks from iTunes/Musicplaylists by a script and Radiologik DJ will import a scheduled list oftracks right after the scheduler creates it.
Radiologik DJ Program and Spot List files
Once you have tracks in with the above 4 methods, you can save Save,Add, and Load the first two lists from the File menu.
Add to top/bottom folders
Placing an audio file in the 'Add to top' folder inthe~/Music/Radioloigk folder will have DJ move the file to the 'Added totop' folder and place the track at the top of the queue as next toplay. This might be useful for remotely adding important new tracks forplay as soon as possible. If an outro is at the top of queue, it willadd the track after theoutro.
Similarly placing an audio file in the 'Add to bottom' folder in the~/Music/Radiologik folder will have DJ move the file to 'Added tobottom' and place the track at the end of the queue.
1. Program Queue is a queue of songs that play primarily in the 1st and 2ndplayers, automatically alternating between the two and also the 3rd for voiceoversand short audio files where needed. You can dragre-order the tracks. Tracks play in order from top to bottom. The timescalculated throughout the list take into account overlap timing andrate shifting. You can select multiple tracks to move or delete usingthe shift or command (Apple) keys.
2. Spot [3] operates more like a cart machine where the selected audiofile is the one cued. You can drag re-order the tracks.
3. Library is an internal database library which you can use to quicklyfind songs, preview them, and copy them to either the Program or Spotlists, or drag to the palette buttons if the palette is in its own window.You can select multiple tracks delete or program using the shiftor command (Apple) keys.
All 3 lists are maintained between quitting and launching Radiologik DJ.
Radiologik DJ will update play count and last played date in iTunes/Music ofplayed tracks if in the Log is checked in the Preferences for the audiooutput you use when playing the tracks. This makes smart playlistsuseful for later selecting tracks based on how recently played, etc. iniTunes/Music Smart Playlists.The Palette is on the tab just right of the Library tab. Itallows a bit more free form playing of short sounds such as soundeffects, jingles, zingers or any short audio. Drag any audio file fromthe Finder or from iTunes/Music over a button to load it to that button.There are 20 sets and 20 buttons per set for 400 total possible items. You can rename the sets by clicking on the name of the set after selecting it.
Pressing the button once plays it. The button will darken and thenlighten from left to right to show the progress. You can also stop thefile by pressing the button again and it will lighten from top tobottom at the rate of the fade set by the fade and finish slider.
Buttons support Finder label colors and these labels can be changedwith a contextual menu (right click). Buttons can be triggered bynumber keys or they can be set to use a MIDI surface (right click toassign). There is a master volume slider at the bottom.The Window button above the Palette Set List allows you to break-out the Palette as its own window which might be useful for Macs with more than one display.Use Stream Receive to rebroadcast another station in the same manner as rebroadcasting a satellite feed in years past.
Stream Receive supports mp3, AAC+ and Vorbis streams. It also supports playing mp3 and m4a files from http or https. Setup a stream profile for each URL. Each stream profile has its own duck, fade duration and publish settings.
Stream metadata can be republished. When playing files it naturally gets the artist, title and album. When playing streams, artist title and album are combined in a single string and must be parsed back. A Parse feature allows you to use a separator to help distinguish artist and title with a default of ' - ' as the separator. Streams also usually contain a genre and a station name. Use the replacement tags and constants to create the publishing you want.
Streams can be started, stopped or swieched as a track action which can be set to tracks in the program queue and also set in Scheduler. Below is the Track Action window in DJ showing the stream and then the Scheduler Program Script settings for stream.
When the 'Duck for palette & players' is checked, the stream receive becomes secondary to any locally played content. The intent here is to duck for short local content such as local identification and branding while playing a stream. Such an ID could be a single pick of a track from Scheduler with an interupt at the time you want the local ID or branding played and the stream will duck for the locally played content and return the volume when the local track finishes.Track Prep in Radiologik Scheduler (ideal)
Use the Track Prep feature of Radiologik Schedulerto prep all the tracks you select in iTunes/Music for a very professionalradio segue sound for most songs and other tracks. This feature isincluded as part of the free features of Radiologik Scheduler Basic.For more on this, see the documentation on Scheduler in its help menuor on the web here.
Edit the actual audio files (alternative)

1. Use your favorite audio editor. (I like Amadeus and Fission)
2. Normalize. You can also use iVolume to set the loudnesslevels which might be easier than doing normalization of all of yourtracks. See below.
3. Remove any silence from the beginning
4. Cold endings should leave silence nearly equal to theoverlap time. I would use 1.5 seconds of silence for 1.8 overlap.
5. Slow fade songs should have the fades accelerated byremoving a portion of the ending and fading more quickly from a givenpoint. I like about 3-4 seconds of linear fade from a point where thesong has already begun to fade.

Use Radiologik's Track Properties (manualor touch-up from Track Prep)
If you cannot open the track in an audio editor such as abovebecause it is perhaps an iTunes/Music protected song, you can set the start,stop, fade-in and fade-out values by selecting the track anywhere inRadiologik and selecting Track Properties from the Edit menu orclicking the Properties button in the bottom right of the window.
When the overlap is set to default, the overlap in the preferences isused. You can also set an overlap from 0 to 10 seconds just for thistrack. Overlap is the trigger for the next track to start. The TimeAnnounce feature from the scheduler makes use of thisby setting the overlap to 0 so that no matter what the overlap is inthe preferences, the time announce will play completely and meet thenext track correctly.


Set the Ramp
The Ramp is the time in the beginning of the track when anannouncer can speak. For live DJ'ing it is an aid which is displayed asa countdown timer. For automation, the scheduler uses this time to aidit in determining how to fit automatic voice tracking. You can set theRamp by pressing the Ramp button on any player.
Set the Logo
Logos are times when the palette player will be used while this trackis playing. This is useful particularly for longer tracks where youneed to brand the audio with your ID or moniker during the track. Thepalette player rotates through all its items for this track and othertracks that specify this palette. Usually you'll want Duck checked onthe palette so that it ducks the main track while it plays the paletteitem. Each track can specify one of the nine palettes to use using thepopup menu on the far right of the track properties window.
Hint & BPM
The Hint field can be used to store up to 32 characters which willthen be displayed in the lower left portion of the player. The Hint can be usedas the clue to the DJ as to how the track will end and for other information.You pick what you likesuch as 'COLD' for a cold ending or FADE for a song that fades down forthe end. Here the Hint 'COLD' is shown as it is displayed at thebottom left of a player. BPM is also read from the tags of the audiofiles and displayed here.
With Auto OFF, Radiologik is made sure to be the front application atthe 20 second from finish mark of a file. It changes the time box fileposition to yellow at 20 seconds
At 15 seconds from finish it changes the file position indicator of thefile to blinking red and then solid red at 5 seconds from finish.
You can adjust the current time position of any audio file by draggingor clicking in the time box of any player. The position is changed whenyou let go of the mouse button.
The first Button 'Cue' resets the player to the beginning of the trackand cues it. The Second button plays or pauses the player. The thirdbutton 'Fade' operates as a fade and finish. In Auto, the next trackwill start at the overlap time determined in the Preferences. The lastbutton 'Ramp' sets the time the announcer can talk into a track and isset to the current track position and recorded in the audio file.
Each player has output toggle buttons to determine which sound outputto use for the player. The button audio outputs and names can be set inthe preferences. This way you can direct each output to a particularmixer channel on a mixer board and control the fades directly there ifyou want. Use the Audio I/O tab in the preferences to setup your audiooutputs. You can pick the different channel pairs from multiple channeldevices on devices such as the M-Audio Firewire 410, the MOTUUltralight, or most any USB or Firewire multichannel audio interface.You can set up to 4 discrete output pairs, 3 which are switchable onthe main window for the 3 main players and palette player and onededicated to off air for the library player and track properties windowplayback.
Volume can be adjusted manually a few ways. Although you can obviouslymove the volume slider, you can also use the mouse wheel when over anyplayer. Mousing over any player and using the mouse wheel adjusts thevolume for all players if for instance you want to duck all audio tospeak. You can also adjust the volume per player by clicking anywherein the colored portion of the player (green, blue, red). The playerwill get a blue highlight around it to indicate you are controlling thevolume for that player alone with the mouse wheel. Click on the playeragain to remove the highlight.
You can also control volume, rate, and all of the Functions in theFunction menu using a MIDI controller. For instance, the BehringerBCF2000 has motorized sliding faders and works very well. Radiologikworks with MIDI controllers in both directions.
Single key shortcuts can be viewed from the Keyboard Reference windowand can be set in the preferences.
In addition, all of these shortcuts are also available from theFunctions menu. You can use the Keyboard item in System Preferences toset key shortcuts for any of these menus such as the F5 key to startprogram.
When pressing the key to program a track from the Library or Spot list,hold down the Shift Key to place it at the top of the queue.
Holding down the control key while starting a player will temporarilyreverse the fade finish other player option in the preferences.Auto plays the next song in queue overlapping by the amount specifiedin the preferences. By default this is 1.8 seconds. You need to prepyour audio to work with the overlaps for auto to sound best. In manualyou start each song yourself. With both Auto ON or OFF, you can firethe next song yourself when you want. There is an option in thePreferences to fade the previous song when starting a song which worksin both modes.
Auto ON resets volume and rate for each player when a new file isloaded.
Auto OFF leaves player volume and rate alone for each player as set
You can make it so rate is not reset by changing the Advancedpreference ResetPitchWhenAuto to false
By the default colors in preferences:

• Auto ON, cued songs are blue
• Auto OFF, cued songs are red

With Auto Off you can still set certain tracks to be auto. Inthe Actions column, click the small circle. The arrow indicates thistrack is linked to the previous track and will play automatically as ifauto were on.
Voiceovers allow you to introduce a track such as by using a voicetrack over the beginning of a song. The scheduler will make use of thisfor voice tracking a fully-automated station.
In the program list there is a checkbox in the very right corner namedVO. Just to the right of that is the player indicator which shows whichplayer this track will be played in.
When this box is checked, the track is loaded into player 3 alongsidethe next track in the program.
A voiceover introduces the next track andwill use the ramp of the next track to determine if and how tovoiceover the actual track this way:

1. If the ramp is 0, then there's no overlap.
2. If the ramp is less time than the intro,then the intro starts first and overlaps only as much as the ramp soyou get a perfect finish of the intro at the end of the ramp at thepost.
3. If the ramp is longer than the intro, thenthe intro and the song start at the same time and intro ends and thesong fades up before the end of the ramp (the post).

When the track in player 1 or 2 that is cued will overlap thesong it is introducing it sets the introduced track's ducking volumewhich you can determine in the preferences. If overlapping, when player3 finishes, player 1 or 2 fades-up by the time value also set in thePreferences.
Manually Ducking
You can duck the 3 main players by using the Duck button or theshortcut key for it which is by default the 'M' key. Pressing it againturns off the duck. This ducking does not duck the library player, thetrack properties player, or any of the palette players.
If you place a track after avoiceover with the last characters -bedat the end of the artist, title, or album tag or use the Hint bed in the track properties, thattrack will be a music bed and play at ducked volume until a few secondsat then end when it will fade up and end or fade up and fade down.
If the music bed track is longer than the voiceover, it will beadjusted to fit the voiceover.
If the music bed track is shorter than the voiceover, it will startpartway into the voiceover so that it ends just a few seconds after thevoiceover.Line In simply takes an audio device input and routes it to anaudio device output. Use the Audio pane of the preferences to set whichdevices are used. There is also the option on the General pane of thepreferences to use a fade when switching Line In on and off.
Line In can be turned on using the button or keyboard shortcut (L isdefault) or by a MIDI control surface. It can also be turned on using aTrack Action. That Track Action can be assigned to a specific interrupttime by DJ or set by Scheduler.Use Finder Color Labels/Tags on your files and Radiologik will use thatcolor for those items in your Program Queue and Spot list.
You can also right click on a track in any list or in the paletteplayer to change the track Label/Tag color.Track actions are only for items in the program queue.Double-click the track in the program list or select it and click theActions button. Radiologik Scheduler makes use of all of these actions.
You can use actions to set the schedule interrupt time for a track inthe program. The track will play at the specified time regardless ofeverything else. If nothing is playing, it will start the track and ifin Auto, it will continue to play subsequent tracks. If something isalready playing in queue, it will fade that track and start playing thetrack with the interrupt time. If the program queue runs out before theinterrupt time, the track will not be played until the scheduled time.
You can also set ID checkbox to tell the Station ID button thatthe station has ID'd for the hour when this track is played.
The Line in can be turned on and off as a track action
Each program track can be set to change the preference set. The actualpreference set is not changed until that track begins playing and isapplied to it and all following tracks without affecting precedingtracks such as a fading track that might still be playing.
Each program track can also be set to run an AppleScript from the~/Music/Radiologik/Scripts/ folder. See AppleScripting.
An internet audio stream can be started using the stream profile name or a playing stream can be stopped.
And the Studio Timer at the top left of the Radiologik DJ window can be set to start the Studio Timer with this track action when the track playsYou can save programs from the file menu. This will save either yourwhole queue or if you have a selection, you can choose t save just theselected tracks as a program which you then load later. In the savedialog you are also given the choice to save as a program file or as aportable program bundle. If you choose a program file, you areessentially saving a list that references the audio files along withany setting you made to track actions. If you choose to save as aportable program bundle, all of your audio files are collected into thefile. This allows you to save a program and take it to another Mac withRadiologik DJ without worrying whether the files are on that Mac.The third player is automatically assigned a track when Auto is ON andthe combined overlaps won't get us to play the next track in time. Inother words, it is done when a track is shorter than the 2 overlaps anda 3rd player is needed to play a triple-segue. An extra 1 second safetyis given in the decision to use the 3rd player to account for cueloading times to make sure tracks are played at the right time.
In this case players 2 and 3 are cued and you'll see the playerassignment something like this:
You can open preferences from the Radiologik menu.
Preference Sets
All settings in preferences can be kept in different sets whichyou can name. These different preferences are stored in separate filesin the Finder which you can rename or delete. This can be useful if forinstance you would like a different overlap setting for each format onyour station which the scheduler can then change at the appropriatetime, or if different DJs like different keyboard settings.

General
Here you can set the various timings. The effect of thesesettings are various and described elsewhere in this document.
Auto on at startup puts Radiologik mode on regardless of whether it wason when it was last quit. Restore playing at startup puts Radiologikback to playing exactly what was playing in program when it was lastquit.
Play Logos will play palette items in order at certaintime intervals if the tracks exceeds the length you specified. This canbe a way to get your moniker or some message into long audio files. Youcan also specify exact Logo times in a particular file in track properties in which case only thoseare used.
Automatically check for updates checks for new versions of RadiologikDJ no more than once a day.

Audio I/O
Here you can set the devices and names for the audio outputsthat are selectable above each player as well as choose a Libraryplayer output.
Log and Publish can be toggled per output. Logwill log to the Log tab and to
~/Library/Logs/Radiologik/Play Logs/.
In order to register the songs played with iTunes/Music, you'll need Log onfor that output.
Publish needs to be on for the track to show in the topof the Radiologik window and to be published to all the publishingoutlets on the Publishing pane in the preferences.
Register played tracks with iTunes/Music when logging theplayer output will increment the play count and update the last playeddate in iTunes/Music if log is turned on for the output used on the Audio I/Opreference tab. It does so by doing a quick search on matching artist,album and track name for songs with ID3 data and just for track namefor other files.

The next three tabs allow you to set keyboard shortcuts, MIDIcontrollers, and interface appearance.
For the next panes see Publishing, Uploadingand Global PreferencesiVolumeis basically an enhanced loudness equalizer similar to iTunes/Music SoundCheck but much better. Radiologik can use these gain values stored inany file that contains tags such as .mp3 and m4a files. It allows youto adjust on a per-song basis or by entire album. You can tellRadiologik DJ to use these values by checking the 'Use iVolume/iTunes/MusicSound Check loudness adjustment' on the Audio tab of the preferences.If you have artists, titles, genres or tracks marked with keywords inthe comments that you don't want published such as internal productionaudio, you can add them to Exclude list on the Publishing Exceptionswindow found in the View menu. If you would like to exclude all butthose that match the keywords in a list, then leave the Exclude listblank and add the list of the only keywords you want to match forinclusion on the Include tab list. If you use both Exclude and Includeand both are matched, then include wins and the track metadata ispublished.
The program queue shows published tracks in bold for the Artist - Title.

The Studio Timer allows you to set countdown and up timers for specific lengths or specific destination times.
Clicking the timer icon at the top left of the DJ window provides a window where you set set, start and stop the studio timer.
The Studio Timer can also be started with a Track Action which can be set by double-clicking a track in the program queue or set in a Scheduler script.
The top right corner of the DJ window ID button displays time in relation to the top of the hour.
If you set a TimeOffset inPreferences-->Advanced, your air-time with the delay is shown above the ID button.
The program remaining time at the bottom left of the DJ window also calculates how the program queue relates to the studio timer and the top of the hour
Scriptable
To see how Radiologik DJ is scriptable, open AppleScript Editor from/Applications/Utilities and drag Radiologik DJ's icon from the Finderover AppleScript Editor. Commands to control some functions and getsome information from Radiologik DJ and to send serial and TCP/IPcommands to other devices and software are documented in thatdictionary.
Track Action Scripts
You can attach a script to a track action. Scripts for this canbe created in ~/Music/Radiologik/Scripts/. Scripts fire when the trackstarts. It's suggested you just make your own in AppleScript Editor,name them whatever you like and place them there. Just don't use the reserved DJEvent- at the start of the script file name. DJEvents scripts are specially fired for the events they describe below.

DJ Events AppleScripts
These scripts are special in that they execute for certain conditions or events and do not appear in AppleScript menus in DJ or Scheduler. You canedit these Applescripts located in ~/Music/Radiologik/Scripts/.These scripts contain some examples which you can uncomment by removing theleading '--' from each line.

Only these DJEvents that are created by Radiologik can be used. You cannot and should not make up new scripts starting with DJEvent- as these simply won't show in menus and will not be executed since they are not part of the predefined events.
You can put links in a webpage to tell Radiologik DJ to add a track to the top or bottom of the program queue when used on the same Mac. URIs start with rldj: and there are two distinct commands for top of queue (atop) and bottom of queue (abot) followed by a shell path. Here's an example:

LadioCast
LadioCastcan encode MP3, AAC-HE (AAC+), and various Ogg formats and stream to an icecast,shoutcast, or RMTP server but it doesn't contain it's own icecast or shoutcast server. Soyou either need an icecast or shoutcast provider or you need to download shoutcast or the sourcefor icecast and install it yourself. It does allow you to stream AAC-HEwhich can provide the same quality as mp3 streaming at half thebit-rate. LadioCast is free.
Install an audio routing deviceand have DJ send out to that audio device. Then use that asthe audio device for DJ's output and for LadioCast's input.
To get metadata to LadioCast, in DJ versions 2018.5.1 and higher, go in Radiologik DJ's Preferences-->Publishing and check 'LadioCast'.
Audio HiJack
Audio Hijack 3.5 and higher has a Broadcast output. With Audio HiJack you can visually design an audio chain including multiple sources, effects & procesing, and outputs. Audio can be captured from audio devices or directly from Radiologik DJ. Audio Hijack encodesAAC (AAC-HE at low bitrates such as 64Kbps) and MP3 and can send to both icecast and shoutcast servers.
To Publish track metadata to Audio Hijack, turn on 'Audio Hijack/Nicecast' in Preferences--Publishing.
butt (broadcast using this tool)
butt is afree stream encoder that supports mp3, AAC+, Ogg-Vorbis and Opus. It also doesn't have anicecast server but you can use it to send to one or shoutcast. To getaudio to from DJ to butt, use an audio routing device
butt can get its meta data from a text file for which you specify thelocation in butt's interface. For this you can make a text file in~/Music/Radiologik/Web/Templates/butt and add the text:
or whatever metadata replacement tags or literal text youwant to that text file and save. Then point butt to the file~/Music/Radiologik/Web/butt
Audio Routing
To get audio from DJ to another applications such asLadiocast or butt, install BlackHole (free) or Soundflower(free) or for much more sophisticated features, Loopback (pay)and have DJ send out on one of these audio devices. Then use the same device for the source audiofor that application that is capturing the audio. butt doesn't havea monitor for the audio it captures like LadioCast or Audio HiJack 3.5 and up.
Audio Processing
Audio HiJack has audio effects built-in. If you do need audio effects in software for Ladiocast or butt or other purpose, you can use AU Lab. Route audio to it through audio routing deviceout the Mac, through a mixer maybe, and back into the Mac to a stream encoder. Oruse Loopback for multiple virtual audio devices and routing all within the Mac.
icecast
icecast is a streaming server you can run on your Mac if you don't have a stream host service to send your audio to through any of the above encoders.

Installing icecast:

1. Install homebrew if you don't have it already. In the terminal:/usr/bin/ruby -e '$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)'
2. Install icecast:brew install icecast
3. It works with default config User 'source' password of 'hackme' on port 8000 but you can edit it for new password and much more:In Finder do Go menu--Go to Folder (Cmd-Shift-G) and enter /usrand then navigate to /usr/local/Cellar/icecast/2.4.3/etc/icecast.xmlEdit that in TextEdit if you like
4. Run icecast in terminal:/usr/local/Cellar/icecast/2.4.3/bin/icecast -c /usr/local/Cellar/icecast/2.4.3/etc/icecast.xmlVersion may vary.

If you don't edit the icecast.xml, point the encoder (Audio Hijack, Ladiocast, or butt) to:
Host or address: 127.0.0.1
Port: 8000
User: sourcePassword: hackme

You can makeup a mount such as 'listen'

Then connect with iTunes, Music, VLC or whatever receiver at http://127.0.0.1:8000/listen
For remote listening change 127.0.0.1 to the actual local or public IP, etc.

With Mixer (ideal)

1. Run Radiologik DJ's audio output to the mixer
2. Connect your mic(s) to the mixer
3. Run an output of the mixer back into an audio input on theMac
4. Set Ladiocast or butt (or other encoder) to use audio input of theMac as source
5. Now you can control your audio levels for player and micwith the mixer
   

Without Mixer

1. Install an audio routing device (BlackHole, Soundflower, or Loopback)
2. Set Ladiocast or butt (or other encoder) to useaudio input to that audio routing device
3. Run Radiologik DJ's Preferences-->Audio on-air outputto that audio routing device
4. Set Line In to your Mic's audio input
5. Set Line Out to that audio routing device
6. You can use the Line In button in DJ to turn your Mic onand off

For internet streams in the U.S., consider using Live365 as they can server your stream and take care of all of the reporting and royalty payments relieving you of the legal worries.

You can publish to Files including album art which can be uploaded withthe Upload portion of DJ's Preferenes. You can also publish to LadioCast, Nicecast, Audio HiJack, Messages, Growl, Twitter, macOS Notifications, Last.fm, TuneIn, GET URL, TCP/UDP and Serial.
What is published shows in the top of theRadiologik DJ window.
When nothing is playing you can set that text in Publishing Default to be your station nameand you can have it be different for different programs by settingdifferent text for different preference sets.
Use the format field to set how the metadata is constructed for sending toLadioCast, Twitter, and Messages status.
For Twitter you can choose to include album artwork in the tweet and you can choose to throttle the number of tweets to every nth. Default is 1 which is to tweet every.Use a higher number to tweetevery 2nd, 3rd, or nth track.
Along with File publishing you can enable saving of artwork files. Customize the size andquality fields. Size range is 25-600px, default 200px. The quality rangeis up to 100 but it is advisable to use a range of between 75 - 100, default is 75.
File Publishing
With the checkbox Files on inPreferences-->Publishing, Radiologik periodically reads in filesfrom ~/Music/Radiologik/Web/Templates/ and outputs the same named filesto ~/Music/Radiologik/Web/, replacing all tags with current data fromDJ. These can be elements in any text file you like for use on the webor other purposes. These files can have extensions like .html, .txt,.xml, etc. All text is written out in UTF8 encoding.

You can also use variations to get past tracks and future tracksfor all of the above replacements tags. For instance use<rl-title-01> to get the most recently played title. Use<rl-artist+02> to get the artist two tracks in the future. Youcanuse this to get information for up to 9 upcoming tracks and up to 19past tracks.
The following tags don't use these numbered variations:

Default album art can be set by placing aDefaultAlbumArt.jpg file in ~/Music/Radiologik/
Backwards compatibility: Tags without the <rl- prefix are stillsupported like <artist> and will work as long as no <rl-prefixes are found in the template. The <rl- prefix was added in2014.2.1 to avoid conflicts with some XML formats requiring some of thetags DJ was using as replacement tags.

Album art jpegs at 200px are saved to ~/Music/Radiologik/Web/albumart/.The output size can be changed in Preferences-->Advanced. Thecurrent art is art-00.jpg. Future art is art+01.jpg and higher numbersup to art+10.jpg for future tracks and art-01.jpg up toart-20.jpg for past tracks.
Uploading
With Radiologik DJ 2018.6.1 and later, you can use the Upload pane of the preferenes to upload any files published by File publising in the ~/Music/Radiologik/Web folder and art from the contained albumart folder to your website using ftp, or sftp. For best efficiency, only check the boxes for those items you want uploaded.

You can also use the DJ Event AppleScript~/Music/Radiologik/Scripts/DJEvent-NowPlayingChanged to place anAppleScript that will upload whatever files you like to your webserver.This script only executes when the now playing has changed. An exampleis provided in the script as it is installed that you can uncomment andadjust.



GET URL & Format
In the Preferences-->Publishing for GET URL you can supply aurl that can be used to send track info to a server via http or https.
Format is where you can define the contruction of metadata to LadioCast, Twitter, Messages.
GET URL & Format use the same replacement tags as TCP/UDP & Serial publishing defined above with the exception of line endings. The following tags are available:

TCP/UDP/Serial
Use TCP/UDP & Serial in Preferences-->Publishing to setup outputs toserial devices, TCP or UDP devices such as RDS or software such as streamingsoftware on another computer. Use the text command line there and usethe following replacement tags in that command text to send metadataand other information. Several other tags also work for Twitter, IM, etc. You can use a mixture of whatever constants and these dynamic tags. The following tags are available:

Mojave introduced the need for approval of some actions Radiologik DJ and Scheduler use to communicate with each other and iTunes/Music and also for access to the audio inputs. In System Preferences--Security & Privacy--Privacy--Automation, make sure checkboxes are on for anything Radiologik. Also make sure checkboxes are also on for Radiologik in Microphone
Don'toverload the Program Queue
It is best to keep the number of tracks in programqueue to less than 50 if possible. This is particularly an issue onolder Macs when too many items in queue will slow performance of theinterface. If you need many hours of material in queue, use RadiologikScheduler (Basic is free) to add items to the queue each hour
Turn Time Machine off
After a long period of time backing up, Time Machine can become verydisk-intensive with the hourly backups--enough that it can take longerto do maintenance than actual copying of files and enough where itaffects playback. Turn Time Machine off and consider using ChronoSyncor Carbon Copy Clonerto do backups daily at the least listened hours of the day.
Keep Mac Awake and Disks Spinning
In Energy Saver, make sure the Computer sleep time is Never andthe Put hard disks to sleep when possible is unchecked. It isokay to have the display sleep.
Memory
Disk swapping memory can cause performance issues. To checkmemory performance, open /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor andlook at System Memory. Page outs are best at 0 bytes or a very smallnumber compared to page ins such as a few MB or less. High page ins areokay. If page outs are high, either run less memory heavy applicationsat once or add memory. In Mavericks 10.9 and up, look at memorypressure. It should be green.
Network Publishing
If Radiologik freezes for long periods of time and publishing is on forTwitter, TuneIn, or Last.fm, try turning these off to see if thisresolves the freezing. There might be a networking problem preventingthese from working that needs to be fixed.
Headless Mini
Observed on Late 2012 mini running Mountain Lion: The mini will notperform as well with no display attached. A good solution is to attachan HDMI headless adapter. Seeblog post here.
Rebuild iTunes database needed

Radiologik Dj Manual Online

The symptom is a pause a couple seconds after starting each track. Totest if this is the cause, turn off this option: Preferences-->AudioI/O-->Register Tracks Played with iTunes…'. If this fixes theproblem then try rebuilding the iTunes database http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1451
No important information should be lost in this such as last played,playcounts, ratings, etc.
Then turn the preference back on to see if the issue is fixed.
Clear Library and Play History
There have been a couple rare cases where clearing the PlayHistory would resolve hesitations on transitions. Go to the PlayHistory tab and the use the Clear List button. You can also tryclearing the Library and re-importing.
Other performance options for older Macs
You may find performance faster if you turn off Waveform inPreferences, Appearance
If you don't use the files published to ~/Music/Radiologik/Web, turnoff Web in Preferences, Publishing
DJ & Schedulerseeing out-of-date tracks and playlists from iTunes
iTunes can stop updating it's XML file. Since Scheduler and DJuse this to know the current state of iTunes Library, having this stuckin the past can cause a slew of problems from no rotation, not seeingnew tracks, trying to get tracks that don't exist, not seeing newplaylists, seeing old deleted playlists, etc.
Look at ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library.xml (sometimes iTunes MusicLibrary.xml) in the Finder and see what the modification date is on it.It should be very recent. If not, note the date, show all songs iniTunes and list them by date added. Look for songs added right afterthat XML file modification date for odd characters in any of the fieldsfrom artist, title, album, composer, comment, etc. If you find oddcharacters like , remove them. You'llknow you're successful when the XML file is updated more recently. Ifyou had 'iTunes Music Library.xml', iTunes might startwriting-out the new working xml file as 'iTunes Library.xml' leavingthe old one with the old date there. That old one can then be trashed.

Automatically recoverfrom a DJ crash:

1. With Radiologik Scheduler running, go in Scheduler'spreferences and turn on 'Make sure DJ is always running'.
   
2. Open Terminal and enter 'defaults writecom.apple.CrashReporter DialogType server' without quotes and return.This will keep crash reports from showing while still logging them toConsole.
   

iTunes Updates
Particularly true with older versions of iTunes, don't let iTunes doautomatic checks for updates. It leaves a dialog up that preventsRadiologik from communicating with iTunes. This option is at the bottomof the iTunes preferences window on the General pane.
iTunes/Music Last Played
Radiologik DJ will mark tracks played in iTunes/Music under these conditions:

1. In Preferences-->Audio I/O, ensure Log is checked forthe output you use for broadcasting.
2. In Preferences-->Audio I/O, ensure Register playedtracks with iTunes/Music when logging the player output is checked.
3. On Mojave and higher, in System Preferences--Security & Privacy--Automation, make sure Radiologik DJ has a check for iTunes or Music.
   

AppleScripts
Maintenance and search and replace AppleScripts for iTunes/Music areavailable at Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes/MusicCrash Reports
If Radiologik quits unexpectedly, it may create a crash report that youcan email that will help determine the source of the problem to find asolution. Use Console in /Applications/Utilities/ to show log list anddepending on OS X version it will be in either User Reports, User Diagnostic Reports,or ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter. Look for files beginning withRadiologik. You can drag the item right from the list to produce filethat can be emailed.
Logs
Radiologik keeps logs in ~/Library/Logs/Radiologik/ which you canview in Radiologik Scheduler--Logs--Browse All. An Errors.log may reveal issuesand that can be emailed. If you have issues with Scheduling andplayback, sending a log for the day from both Scheduler and andPlay Logs is very helpful in showing what issue you might behaving such as with how a Scheduler script executed.
Unless it is indicated in the logs, report the version of Radiologik DJand Scheduler, OS X version, and which model Mac and any other relevantinformation.

3. Remote iTunes
DJ needs to mark tracks played in iTuneson the Scheduler Mac. We can do this with Remote Apple Events.
1. On the Scheduler Mac, open System Preferences, click Sharing, thenturn on Remote Apple Events. Set access as you see fit. Restart thisMac to get this working properly.
2. On the DJ Mac in Radiologik DJ, open the preferences to the Advancedpane. Find the item RemoteiTunesMacand set it so it has the information for your remote Mac in the formatlike this:

Radiologik DJ on one Mac should now marks songs as played in iTunes onthe Scheduler Mac.

4. Run a second copy of DJ onthe remote scheduling Mac
We can use this same preference to indicate that we should use analternate to ~/Music/Radiologik/ for a second copy of DJ to run whilethe main folder is shared between two Macs.
On the scheduling Mac, open the preferences to the Global pane and findthe item RemoteiTunesMac andset it so it has the information for your remote Mac in the format likethis:
Quit DJ and relaunch. Radiologik DJ on this computer will now use thefolder ~/Library/Radiologik Local/ and that will then eliminate thepotential for conflicts with two copies of Radiologik DJ accessing thesame folder.

5. Preparing Scheduler preferences for DJon separate Mac
To prevent Scheduler from attempting tolaunch DJ on the same Mac as Scheduler is running, in the preferencesfor Scheduler, turn off the option 'Make sure DJ is always running'.That will prevent Scheduler from attempting to launch DJ anytime itfinds it is not running.
Also, normally Scheduler wants to make sure DJ is running beforescheduling to check the queue. To prevent Scheduler from launching DJlocally when scheduling, on the Scheduler Mac, quit RadiologikScheduler, open the file ~/Library/Preferences/Radiologik/RadiologikScheduler Preferences in TextEdit. Find the line
and change it to
Then run Radiologik Scheduler again.

6. Other split DJ and Scheduler/iTunesconsiderations

• Remember to set login items for both Macs according totheir new roles
• iTunes should not be launched on the DJ Mac. Remove itfrom this Mac and remove it's icon from the Dock. DJ users have accessto iTunes tracks through DJ's iTunes playlists and the Library tab andare protected from doing any harm to the iTunes Library on theScheduler Mac.
• Audio files that are outside of iTunes such as trafficflight audio files need to be local to the Scheduler Mac and in adirectory that the DJ Mac can access. Making a folder in the Musicfolder to store these works well.

Normally Radiologik looks for the active iTunes library location. Butin case you have multiple libraries and you want to Radiologik to readfrom a different library than what is active, you can set the path tothe folder which contains the xml file.
Open the preferences to the Global pane and find the item CustomiTunesXMLLocation. Click thefield to the right to get an open dialog to select the XML filelocation. eg. '/Volumes/Storage/Storage/Music/iTunes/iTunesLibrary.xml'
Note: Markingtracks played will still be done through the active iTunes Libraryunless this is a remote Mac in which case you canuse RemoteiTunesMacbelow.

In a setup with iTunes on a differentMac, DJ needs information about how to mark tracks played in iTunes onthis remote Mac. We can do this with Remote Apple Events.
1. On the remote Mac, open System Preferences, click Sharing, then turnon Remote Apple Events. Set access as you see fit. Restart this Mac toget this working properly.
2. On the DJ Mac in Radiologik DJ, open the preferences to the Advancedpane. Find the item RemoteiTunesMacand set it so it has the information for your remote Mac in the formatlike this:

Radiologik DJ on one Mac should now marks songs as played in iTunes onthe remote Mac.

AutoRefreshMenus
Default is on. You may need to disable auto refresh of menus for conditions whereseveral hundred playlists in iTunes are hurting DJ performance whenchanging applications.

AudioHijackTrackTitlesOverride
Default is on. With this on, Radiologik saves the artist and track information to ~/Library/ApplicationSupport/Nicecast/NowPlaying.txt. With this method, regardless ofwhich source is used, Radiologik overrides what any other source mightprovide for this information. To make Radiologik only publish thisinformation to Audio HiJack and Nicecast when Radiologik is the source.

ManuallySaveTrackProperties
Default is off. Setting this option to true allows Tracks to holdTrack properties temporarily until you press the Save button in theTrack Properties window. This option also allows Track Properties thatare not saved in the file to remain with program and spot files as wellas the saved queue.

AudioHijackPublishingOrder
Default is artist-album-title. You can adjust the order in which artist, title, and albummetadata are presented in a stream from Audio Hijack or Nicecast. Use the terms artist,title, and album separated only by -. Default is artist-album-title butyou could make it title-artist-album for instance.

OverlappingTimeAnnouncements
Default is off. Normally Time Announcements are very short and an overlap is notdesirable. But perhaps in some cases you've made very customized timeannouncements that are longer that you want them to overlap. Turningthis option on will allow Time Announcement files to use either theoverlap value saved in them via track properties editing or as set byTrack Prep

OverlappingOutros
Default is off. This option is provided to keep the old behavior ofhaving outros overlap. Since combos were introduced, it was necessaryto have outros not have too much trailing silence in order to naturallycombine with an intro to make a combo.

BetterButSlowerLibraryOrder
Default is on. With this option on, when you sort by a columnsubsorting by other columns is done. Sometimes with very largelibraries, this can slow performance. Turning this option off will makethe sort only by the column sorted.

MarkUsingPersistentID
Default is on. If MarkUsingPersistentIDis on, Persistent ID is use to mark track played in iTunes/Music, otherwiseartist, title, and album are used.

PlayPodcatIniTunesToMark
Default is off. If PlayPodcatIniTunesToMarkis on, when a track with a genre of 'Podcast' is played, when the track is markedplayed in iTunes, so long as iTunes is not currently playing, this will simulateactually playing the track in iTunes, doing so silently for the first few seconds,advancing to 10 seconds from the end, letting the track finish, and then restoringthe last found iTunes volume level. With this setting on or off, iTunes is also quitand relaunched after marking a track played that has the genre of 'Podcast'if nothing is playing in iTunes to further convince iTunes that wereally are playing these podcast tracks and that iTunes should not unsubscribe us.

MarkScriptToClipboard
Default is off. For troubleshooting marking tracks as played in iTunes/Music,if iMarkScriptToClipboardis on, the marking AppleScript will be copied to the clipboard when itis executed.

RestartSilentPlayers
Default is on. Only applicable to ML versions after 2016.2.1. With this on, if a player is playing with no meteractivity for 15 seconds with more than 30 seconds remaining for thetrack, the player will be paused and restarted to try to rectify theproblem.

ResetPitchWhenAuto
Default is on. When this is off, the rate adjustmentyou make to the top 3 players is kept even when Auto is on.

TimeOffset
Default is 0. Range is -300 to 300 seconds or 5 minutesbehind to 5 minutes ahead. This offsets all of Radiologik's timecalculations for special uses such as stations with a delay or forinternet streams with a known buffer delay.

UseTimeOffsetForTextCommand
Default is on. Determines whether or not to use theTimeOffset preference for the text commands on the Publishing pane ofthe Preferences.

PublishingRegExMask
Use this to remove content from the published titles,artists or albums.An example is to remove the parenthesis content of a title such as'Song (feat. Singer)' to make it just 'Song'. This uses RegEx toestablish the pattern. In this case' (.*)' withoutthe quotes. To remove both parenthesis and bracketed content, you canuse '[([].*[)]]' without the quotes. For referenceand live testing of RegEx, visit: 'http://regexpal.com

NoPlayChangeScriptForDefaultPub
Default is off. With this on the DJEvent-NowPlayingChanged scriptwill not fire when default publishing is used.

KeepSchedulerOpen
Default is off. If Scheduler needs to be running all the time for yourstation, you can ensure that it is kept open in case someone quit it orfor some reason it crashed.

ShowErrorNotifications
Default is on. With this on, any errors that DJ logs to to Error.log are presented in a popup window.

DisableAppToFront
Default is off. With this on, Radiologik DJ will not be made the frontmost app with Auto off at the last 20 seconds of a track.

DisableScrollWheelVolume
Default is off. With this on, scrolling with mouse wheel or trackpad will not adjust the volume of players or the palette volume.

SubscribeToBetas
Default is off. Turn this on to have the update checks get beta versionsas well as final versions. It is advisable to only run betas if you arewilling to test new features. You should not leave this on all the timeparticularly for critical operation stations.
It is possible to run more than one copy ofRadiologik DJ and Scheduler and have those copies use their own set ofRadiologik folders. To do this, make a copy of the Radiologik DJ and/orScheduler application(s) and add a -- and something to the name of theapplication such as 'Radiologik DJ--Jazz' and/or 'RadiologikScheduler--Jazz'. Then these copies will use folders 'Radiologik--Jazz'in the Music, Logs, and Preferences folders. When launched, they willalso show the appended name in their respective title bars. Withmultiple audio outputs it is then possible to run more than onechannel/station on the same Mac. All of the Radiologik applicationinstances will still share the same one iTunes/Music.

A new play log file is created for each day andstored in ~/Logs/Radiologik/Play Logs/. Each line is a track played. Bydefault, fields are separated by tabs and are in this order:

9. Publisher

You can change the log format by editing the file ~/Music/Radiologik/LogFile Format in a text editor. There are also some extra fields defined there forcomment, grouping, year, genre, and persistent id.
